Africa-Press – Eswatini. THE fair performance by Sihlangu in the recent international friendlies seems to have been spurred by football authorities who pampered the players, as they were paid their allowances by the Eswatini Football Association (EFA).

The players smiled all the way to the bank as each star received E16 000 in allowances.

The pay includes training allowances for the 2023 Hollywoodbets COSAFA Cup that took place in Durban, South Africa in July, and the AFCON Qualifiers against Burkina Faso.

As reported earlier by this publication, the players were frustrated by the delay in processing the payments.

Latest updates indicate that the players received the money shortly before their camp in preparation for the international friendly match against SA’s Bafana Bafana on Friday. Sihlangu players are entitled to E3 000 each for a win, E1 500 for draws and E250 as training allowances. This means EFA has spent E336 000 on the squad comprising 21 players. The pay excludes allowances for the technical bench and other support staff.

“We have been waiting patiently but we are happy that we have finally been paid our allowances by the football mother body,” said some of the players. EFA Marketing and Communications Officer Muzi Radebe was coy in his response, saying these were administrative issues.

“I can’t comment on allowances because it’s an administrative issue,” he said briefly. Head coach Dominic Kunene’s-led troops held South Africa to a nill-all draw last Friday at FNB Stadium before succumbing to defeat against Botswana’s Zebras during the FIFA international break.
