Africa-Press – Eswatini. The dust has settled between FNB Eswatini and SUFIAW after agreeing on a 6.5 per cent salary increment and an additional merit increment of two per cent.
This follows negotiations between the Swaziland Union of Financial Institutions and Allied Workers (SUFIAW), the employee, representative union and the First National Bank (FNB) Eswatini. The two had reached an impasse on salary negotiations, which had forced the employers to resort to a strike action, which was scheduled to begin today. According to FNB Acting Executive Head of Human Capital, Futhi Msibi, the additional merit increment would be paid to top performing employees, as it had been done in the previous years. Msibi said the conclusion of the negotiations between the bank and SUFIAW came after several months on arbitration.
She said the bank was expecting operations in all its business units, branches and platforms across the country to continue as normal. Msibi stated that communicated plans about transforming branches to improve customer experience would continue. Reached for comment after the signing of the agreement, SUFIAW Secretary General (SG) Jabu Shiba said, although they were not entirely content, they were pleased to have agreed on what they reached. About 92 per cent of FNB employees had voted for the strike action, which was expected to take place today.
