Africa-Press – Eswatini. His Majesty King Mswati III’s 40-year reign continues to drive Eswatini’s growth, with national leaders observing major gains in jobs, food security and sport.
Speaking during an interview on April 14, 2026, Reverend Dr. Absalom Dlamini said the King’s leadership has built a strong foundation for economic progress. He said the King’s international engagement has attracted investment, knowledge and partnerships that continue to create opportunities for emaSwati.
He identified agriculture as a key area of progress. The Mpakeni Dam project, valued at E2.6 billion, is expected to irrigate about 30 000 hectares upon completion in 2028. The project is set to significantly boost food production and strengthen national food security.
Rev. Dr. Dlamini also commended support for smallholder farmers through institutions such as Eswatini Water and Agricultural Development Enterprise and FINCORP. These have provided financial services to thousands of farmers and entrepreneurs across the country.
On industrial growth, he said the factory shell programme continues to expand employment in rural areas. The Ndzevane and Gamula factory shells are each expected to create about 1000 jobs. Infinity Knits in Hlathikhulu has already employed hundreds of emaSwati, particularly young people.
Meanwhile, former Minister of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs and Sigwe MP David Cruiser Ngcamphalala said the King has transformed sport into a powerful platform for youth empowerment, unity and economic opportunity.
He highlighted the Ingwenyama Cup as one of the country’s leading platforms for developing local talent while promoting culture and healthy lifestyles. The tournament has also attracted regional football giants such as Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates, raising the profile of local football.
Ngcamphalala further noted key investments in sports infrastructure, including the E35 million Mkhuzweni Technical Centre and plans to modernise Mankayane Stadium into a world-class facility.
He said support for events such as the King’s Cup Golf Tournament and the Imbube Marathon continues to promote fitness, inclusion and community participation.
The King’s leadership continues to strengthen livelihoods, empower youth and position Eswatini for sustained growth and opportunity.
