Africa-Press – Eswatini. Scorpions, Olympia and Royal Eswatini Police Service will join Correctional Sunrise in the Confederation of African Volleyball Zone VI Senior Indoor Men and Ladies Club Championships.
The club championships come at a great time for the Eswatini-based teams, as the national team Zone VI Games that were billed for Zimbabwe have been cancelled. As the national team squad was made up of mostly players from the mentioned teams, they will now take full advantage of the club championships billed for Lesotho on December 7. The Zone VI Executives had earlier advised all registered teams of the tournament’s cancellation after most teams found difficulties in honouring it. The tournament was scheduled to run from September 22 through October 1, 2023.
The affiliated teams need to have paid their affiliation fees by October 31, this year. The affiliation fee for the regional championships stands at US$900 (E16 554.64 in yesterday’s exchange rate). However, failure to pay the affiliation fee by the deadline will see clubs paying an additional US$300 (E5 518.21). Meanwhile, Botswana will feature 12 teams at the club championships, while Zambia will bring nine. They have four female teams and five male teams going to Lesotho.

Eswatini have a healthy number of teams heading to the indoor club championships, which will have a total of 10 countries represented at the tournament. Botswana has more of an advantage as they have availed more teams than any of the other countries; they are closely followed by Zambia on nine teams, as well as Eswatini and Zimbabwe, both bringing six teams. Worth mentioning is that the top two-ranked teams as per submission by national federations have right of automatic entry, subject to meeting all requirements as set. Meanwhile, Correctional Sunrise will be among the sides with the country’s hopes on their shoulders after winning the championship back in 2018.
