Africa-Press – Eswatini. The prime minister (PM) has been urged to deal decisively with the scourge of the killing of women and gun control in the country.
This was said by Sigwe Member of Parliament (MP) David ‘Cruiser’ Ngcamphalala during the House of Assembly sitting where Dlamini was sworn-in as an MP.
The PM was sworn-in as Russell Mmiso Dlamini.
This comes after five women died in a space of just over a week in the hands of men. Four women died when they were allegedly shot by Manzini Deputy Sheriff Vusi Mncina in an incident which occurred in Ezulwini a week ago.
While the country was reeling in shock, Mandiso Khanyile shot his wife Nosipho before killing himself in an incident which took place in Ngwane Park over the weekend.
Ngcamphalala said this when Speaker in the House of Assembly Jabulani Mabuza asked MPs to say a few words of welcome to the PM.
Ngcamphalala said the country was faced with the scourge of killing of women these days. He said after they are killed, after a few days the suspect gets E3 000 bail. He said if there was a law which needs to be amended first, it must be the one which makes people find it easy to kill others when they are angry.
He said gun licensing should also be reviewed and it should be made sure that guns are in good hands and it should be researched where the guns are and if they are still inspected.
“We cannot lose Emaswati. In the morning, one is killed, the next morning, another one is killed. It does not look well if everyday blood is shed in the country without a proper reason,” he said.
Ngcamphalala also said in Parliament, sometimes things lead to a boiling point and the PM must not get angry easily, no matter what is said, his heart should remain in ice. He said whatever is said, is always said with respect.
Continue fearing the Lord – Speaker
Speaker in the House of Assembly Jabulani ‘Buy Cash’ Mabuza has told the PM Russell Mmiso Dlamini to continue fearing the Lord, as it is the beginning of wisdom.
He said this after the PM was sworn in as an MP in a sitting that had elements of a Christian gathering as verses were read and many referred to the Pm as a well-known staunch Christian.
Mabuza welcomed the PM and thanked His Majesty for the PM’s appointment. He quoted Proverbs 9:110 which states that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.
He said the PM should remember that the country is led by the monarchy and as he had pledged allegiance, he should continue showing respect to the institution of the monarchy.
He further said the PM was lucky to have sat and listened to Sibaya and he should ensure that he respects the nation and do everything collaboratively with stakeholders.
He said they would like to continue having peace in the country and it would help the PM to consult on issues. He further quoted Mark 12:30 and 31. During the sitting, the PM was seen listening attentively to submissions and also taking notes.
Princess Lindiwe welcomed the PM and said during Sibaya, His Majesty said he was going to pray and urged Emaswati to do the same for the right PM. She said they did just that and the PM’s appointment was an answer to that prayer.
She said they had seen the PM working hard for the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA). She said they were glad that the PM was a God-fearing man as he would not be easily influenced.
Nkwene MP Sikhumbuzo Dlamini said when one did work for the people, they did nothing correctly or wrongly. He said if an MP bought a car, he would be accused of using theirmoney (for luxury), and if he did not, he would be said to be embarrassing the constituency.
He said everyone saw His Majesty the King following Sibaya from the beginning to the end.
“Ingwenyama heard Emaswati’s concern. We ask that the PM continues with the heart that he has, which is one of taking care of people,” he said.
MP Sikhumbuzo said there were a large number of young people at Sibaya and the youth needed to be taken care of. He also urged Dlamini to make Parliament attendance a priority.
Manzini South MP Owen Nxumalo said asked for the three arms of government to work together. He said previously, they had witnessed conflict, which affected Parliament. He urged the PM to ensure that the Judiciary, Legislature and the Executive to find time to meet. He said the issue of poverty was the most burning issue in Parliament. He said the PM said he would use parastatals for service delivery. Nxumalo said there was a huge problem with service delivery. He further urged him to defend the country and the monarchy and to take a stand every time the country has challenges.
MP Manqoba Khumalo said Sibaya said they wanted to see government and Parliament working together. Following the sitting, the Pm took time to meet each and every MP. He was accompanied by his family during the ceremony.
Mbabane East MP wants fresh start
Mbabane East MP Welcome Dlamini has asked that they should start on a clean slate with the PM Russell Dlamini to ensure that they achieve their mandate.
MP Welcome said he knew that the PM was a firm man, and when he took a decision, he stood by it. He said he had worked with him previously and he knew that His Majesty had chosen well in the assignment they had.
The MP said he knew that the PM was a Christian and one of the elements of Christianity was forgiveness.
“Let us let bygones be bygones. Let us have a fresh start and look forward to ensure that the assignment given to us by His Majesty is realised,” he said.
The Speaker said it was true that a Christian is forgiving.
The Mbabane East MP further said His Majesty the King was eloquent on the direction which the country should take. He said the issue of poverty was serious and it was good that the PM was familiar with the poverty situation in the country.
MP Dlamini said as a person representing a constituency from an urban area, there was a belief that there is no poverty, yet urban poverty is serious.
Dlamini said while they were doing their campaigns, the people would not listen to them if they did not bring anything, as people are poor.
“I am grateful that His Majesty saw that this situation is serious, and he gave us someone who can run fast and tackle poverty,” he said.
