In recent weeks, social media users have lauded the prime minister’s active social media engagement for providing informative updates, however, a wave of citizens reporting being barred from accessing one of the government’s pages has sparked curiosity and a flurry of jests.
Numerous social media users flooded timelines with reports detailing their surprise at finding themselves unable to access or engage with the ministry’s official page.
While some have taken the block as a kind of accolade, proudly sharing screenshots of their ‘achievement,’ others remain puzzled by this sudden digital exclusion.
Renowned brand and marketing specialist Lindokuhle Mthupha was among the first to express her initial bewilderment. “Just because I asked for a job,” she shared in a post that garnered over 17 000 views, accompanying it with a shocked reaction emoji. Many other users echoed her sentiments, expressing dismay over what they perceived as unprofessional behaviour from the ministry’s account administrator.
“I’m honestly hurt because I meant no malice when I engaged with their post,” she added. The ministry’s Under Secretary of Political Affairs, Vulindlela Kunene, also chimed in, promising to investigate the unprecedented spree of blockades.
“Will find out if there’s an issue or just fat fingers,” commented Kunene.
While the rationale behind these blockades remains a mystery, citizens have taken a playful approach, turning what could have been a serious issue into a lighthearted phenomenon.
