Africa-Press – Eswatini. This was confirmed by acting Ludzidzini Indvuna Themba Ginindza who said emabutfo from all regions of the kingdom were expected to arrive at Ludzidzini Royal Residence for the sacred annual Incwala ceremony this afternoon.
He disclosed that the water party (bemanti) had already briefed His Majesty King Mswati III that they had travelled safely and had been successful in the mission as assigned.
“His Majesty after being briefed by bemanti has confirmed that Incwala begins tomorrow (today),” Ginindza said.
The arrival of emabutfo marks the beginning of the Little Incwala, which normally lasts for about two weeks before the main Incwala. The emabutfo are expected to join the King and Ingwenyama, Queen Mother, and Sigodlo in the dancing of the Incwala.
As per the norm in past years, His Majestyis expected to move with the Little Incwala to other royal residences; Ngabezweni, Mbangweni, and Buhleni where the King commissions Tingatja to go to Ngabezweni Royal Residence to prepare for the cutting of the sacred Lusekwane shrubs.
When the King moves with the Little Incwala to other royal residences, Her Majesty the Indlovukazi (Queen Mother) has in the past remained and danced the little Incwala at Ludzidzini Royal Residence with Ludzidzini regiments, members of the royal family and the public.
Incwala remains one of Emaswati’s important cultural events that has lasted for hundreds of years. It was explained that the ceremony was about cleansing, renewal and above all it was centred on the kingship.
Tourists interested in Eswatini culture were always welcomed to Incwala. However, respect for privacy gets required on different times.
During a visit to Ludzidzini Royal Residence yesterday afternoon, the residence was bustling with activity as emabutfo prepared their traditional attire in preparation for Incwala.
