Africa-Press – Eswatini. This was said by Manzini Wanderers Public Relations Officer ( PRO) Mduduzi ‘Mr. G’ Ginindza before a crowd of over 500 Eswatini football enthusiasts family and freiends, who gathered at the Manzini Central High School Hall in Manzini to pay their respects and mourn the loss of Manzini Wanderers player Kwanele ‘Namnede’ Dlamini. The hub giant’s player collapsed during a stokvel tournament in Lavumisa on New Year’s Eve and was rushed to Matsenjeni Health Centre, where he tragically passed away.
Oscillated
The memorial service, attended by fans from various football clubs, was a touching yet celebratory affair. The mood in the hall oscillated between sombre and festive, with supporters shedding tears one moment and blowing vuvuzelas and chanting team songs the next. The service was overseen by a former spokesman of the football club, adding to the sense of good fellowship and solidarity among the gathered fans.
The first to talk was Sakhile Mabuza, a cousin of Kwanele. He expressed deep sadness over his cousin’s passing, especially as he received the news during his New Year’s Eve celebrations. Mabuza also thanked the football club for their empathy and support, as they helped to arrange the memorial service and make it a meaningful tribute to Kwanele. Other speakers at the memorial service included Make Simelane, owner of Sakhosakho United, the team for which Kwanele was playing when he passed away during a match in Lavumisa. She recounted the events of that fateful day.
“He didn’t want to go out in that game after having said he was not feeling well and he had a good game that day and we used him as our striker and his passing is totally devastating not only to Manzini Wanderers but to the whole football fraternity and we say condolences to his family and everyone in the football family,” she said.
