Africa-Press – Eswatini. Ibuyile! The country’s biggest cup competition is back and so has the cup drama that comes with it after three Premier League sides Royal leopard, Moneni Pirates and Rangers FC were dumped out.
Yesterday saw the competition enter the round of 32 phase and games were played at their respective venues around the country.
The biggest shock of yesterday’s results came from Tambankulu Stadium as NFD side Tambankulu Celtics slayed Royal Leopard via the penalty shootout.
The sides were level at 2-all at the end of regulation time, with Celtics having to come from behind twice to restore parity, even missing a golden opportunity in the dying embers of the game when they could’ve snatched it.
However, cool and calm heads prevailed in the penalty shootout and luck was on their side as they eventually emerged 4 – 3 winners.
The other Premier League teams that were shown the exit door were hub-based side Moneni Pirates, who lost 0-1 to Pigg’s Peak Rangers at Killarney Stadium, as well as Rangers FC who lost 3 – 4 in the penalty shootout to NFD side Milling Hotspurs.
Another side with a great cup history in Malanti Chiefs will also feel they were unlucky not to advance having enjoyed a two goal lead at halftime, only to blow it and lose in the penalty shootout as well.
The rest of the sides that did not make it through could argue that they were not expecting to do so with none of the Super League sides, Young Lovers and Malahleni United managing to make it past their Premier League opponents.
