DIPLOMATS APPLAUD KING FOR PARLY SPEECH

Africa-Press – Eswatini. MEMBERS of the diplomatic corps have joined the nation in applauding His Majesty King Mswati III for the brilliant speech during the State Opening of the First Session of the 12th Parliament on Friday.

The diplomats, who also attended the event, were invited to meet His Majesty soon after he delivered his Speech from the Throne.

The diplomatic corps and representatives of development partners had one on one sessions with the king, where they were able to extend their appreciation for his speech.

Taiwan Ambassador Jeremy Liang expressed his appreciation to His Majesty for the direction he has given Parliament as they begin their first term of office.

Taiwan is one of Eswatini’s oldest diplomatic friends, having established the relations when the kingdom gained independence in 1968. The other diplomats shared similar sentiments on commending His Majesty on his speech, which they described as solid and all encompassing.

They mentioned that the onus was now on the legislators and government to implement what the King has said.

Some of the diplomats who met the king include; Mozambican High Commissioner Jorge Henrique Da Costa Khalau, India’s High Commissioner Ram Prasad, United Kingdom High Commissioner Simon Boyden, United Nations Resident Coordinator George Wachira, United States of America’s Chargé d Affaires Caitlin Piper and the South African High Commission Counsellor Political Wouter Zaayman.

Also present were consul generals who are resident in Eswatini including Uganda’s Honorary Consul Tobias Kamugisha, Turkish Honorary Consul Ismail Olmez, Indonesia Honorary Consul Kareem Ashraff, Honorary Consular General for the Republic of Ghana Kobla Quashie and the consul generals from Austria, Germany and Tanzania.

Another notable presence was that of Kilifi County Amason Kingi, Speaker of the Senate from the Republic of Kenya, who was joined by a three-member delegation including the chief of staff. Also in attendance was Ikechi Okorie, the World Bank’s Resident Representative in Eswatini, Eastern and Southern Africa (AFE) Region.

His Majesty thanked the diplomats for attending the event and appreciated their countries’ support to the kingdom. He thanked the representatives of the development partners for their role in the development of the country.

Former Eswatini’s ambassadors to different countries Joel Nhleko, Felizwe Dlamini and Christian Nkambule also came through to congratulate His Majesty for the speech and the successful opening of Parliament. Nhleko commended the wise counsel His Majesty gave to the parliamentarians as they assumed office.

He stated that the speech from the Throne gave the nation hope and confidence that the King wanted to see better living conditions for Emaswati.
