Africa-Press – Eswatini. Like a true father who wants the best for his children, Nsingizini Hotspurs President Derrick Shiba says the team’s current players could start reaping the benefits of their relationship with AmaZulu within the next two seasons.
This will see the team’s players ply their trade in the money-spinning DStv Premiership in South Africa.
The two sides signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in March 2022, which was a renewable four-year partnership which entails the sharing of programmes, technical and tactical expertise, transfer of players between the two parties, as well as possibilities for sharing training camps and friendly matches.
The local side has already benefited from the relationship, in that they attended a pre-season tournament last year, where Nsingizini Hotspurs were joined by AmaZulu, Mbabane Swallows and Mamelodi Sundowns in a tournament.
The president believes his current crop of players would make the grade in the neighbouring elite league, with their ongoing programme doing well.
“The progress we have made in terms of the squad composition and progress of the team, means that we will realise that goal within the next two seasons,” Shiba said.
He went on to mention that the whole purpose of the programme was to help local players get opportunities outside the borders. The football boss said it was part of ensuring that the sport was professionalised.
“Basically, this programme is a building block for our players to realise their careers, because without them realising the full potential of the careers, it means we are just socialising the sport instead of running it as a business,” added Shiba.
There are currently four local players who play outside the country, with Lindo Mkhonta playing for ZESCO United in Zambia, Banele Ndzabandzaba and Mxolisi Mkhonto plying their trade in Botswana for Police XI and Jwaneng Galaxy respectively, as well as Justice Figareido, who plays for Richards Bay FC South Africa.
