Africa-Press – Eswatini. A member of the National Communications Team of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Alfred Thompson, has expressed unwavering confidence in the realization of the Ankaful Airport project, despite setbacks due to various global crises.

In an exclusive interview with Johnnie Hughes on the 3FM Sunrise Morning Show on February 19th, 2014, Thompson stated, “We started everything, the feasibility and everything has been done for the airport, the documents are there as we speak now. At the time when we were supposed to start the foundation, that was when we went into the COVID crisis, then happened the Ukraine, then happened global economic crunch. Moneys that were supposed to be released for this airport were frozen because at that time we had the global economic crunch and things were going on as we unexpectedly in Ghana.”

The project, which aims to bring significant infrastructural development to the region, encountered delays due to financial constraints exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent global economic downturns.

Mr Thompson highlighted the challenges faced during these turbulent times but remained optimistic about the project’s future prospects.

“As I speak to you now, things are getting better and definitely the airport will be built. It’s between Ankaful. All the work has been done, the land is there, the documents have been done. I have seen the documents, I know because it’s something that is dear to my heart and I followed up on it,” Thompson affirmed.

He emphasized that the Ankafo Airport would not merely be an ordinary airport but would include a cargo section and facilities for aircraft servicing, catering to both passenger and commercial needs. Thompson reassured listeners that despite the challenges, the project remained a priority for the NPP, affirming, “It’s not as if we’ve thrown it out of the plan, no, it’s still on our plan and it’s going to be done.”

Mr Thompson’s dedication to ensuring equitable development for the Central Region was evident as he pledged to provide further documentation to support the project’s progress.

“I know the person who is in charge. I can show you documents later on everything, feasibility and everything that has been done. Because I’m seriously involved in that. I’m making sure that our people of the Central Region will get what is due to them,” he stated emphatically.

The revival of plans for the Ankaful Airport signifies a commitment to infrastructural development despite global challenges, reflecting the resilience and determination of Ghana’s leaders to drive progress and prosperity for all citizens.
