Africa-Press – Eswatini. SNUS, the Swaziland National Union of Students will commemorate the death of Thabani Nkomonye who was allegedly killed by the police.
The event will take place on the 13th of May 2022 at the Swaziland National Association of Teachers(SNAT) Centre in Manzini.
Colani Maseko, the Students Union President said they had numerous engagements with Thabani’s family and agreed to celebrate his life.
“We demand justice and accountability for Thabani’s death. We may have failed Swazis before who died in the hands of the police, but we refuse to fail Thabani”, he said.
On another note, police denied killing Nkomonye, Senior Magistrate Nonhlanhla Dlamini who was appointed by government to investigate the death of the University student concluded in an investigation report that he died in a car accident.
The commemoration has been endorsed by various political parties that include the People’s United Democratic Movement(PUDEMO), the Ngwane National Liberatory Congress(NNLC), Sive Siyinqaba National Movement, the Swaziland United Democratic Front(SUDF) and the Swaziland Liberation Movement(SWALIMO).
Other political entities that endorsed the commemoration include the Swaziland Youth Congress(SWAYOCO) and the Communist Party of Swaziland(CPS).
It has been disclosed that the University students will then march to the Manzini Regional Headquarters to reject the findings of an investigation into Thabani Nkomonye’s death.
