Africa-Press – Eswatini. King Mswati says, the country has achieved remarkable economic growth since he took over the Throne in 1986 and as a result, eSwatini’s Gross Domestic Product(GDP) grew from R1.5billion to R100billion.
The King was addressing thousands of emaSwati and the Nation in Nhlangano-the southern parts of eSwatini on Saturday during his fifty-seventh(57th) birthday celebration, he applauded emaSwati for maintaining peace and stability in the country.
“I recall that in 1986 when I ascended the throne, our GDP stood at E1.5billion and when I consider many variables, including our water and electrification programmes as well as roads infrastructure development, we have grown as a country. Today, our GDP stands at a little below E100billion.The achievements we boast of today have been through the continuous contribution and support from our neighbours, our region Africa and the global community. It is for that reason that we implore our friends, who are already first world economies, to show us the way and support us in attaining this ambition we have as a Kingdom,” said the King as quoted by Government online platforms.
On another note, the King applauded emaSwati for maintaining peace and stability adding that, this also contributed to the attraction of Foreign Direct Investment(FDIs).
“We take great pride in seeing the greatest virtues of humility and respect that you uphold as a Nation, which have continued to give us peace and stability as a kingdom. This can be taken for granted sometimes, yet these are the greatest virtues that investors look for in a country,” he said.
