MANZINI-MATSAPHA POOL ZONE INTERIM COMMITTEE FORMED WITH FOCUS ON YOUTH, SPONSORSHIP, AND SPORT REVIVAL

Africa-Press – Eswatini. The Manzini-Matsapha Pool Zone Interim Committee has been officially established to oversee the development and management of pool sport in the region. Chester Dlamini has been appointed as chairman, with Celumusa Dlamini serving as Secretary General and Dumsane Dlamini as treasurer. The committee also includes members Menzi Ngomane and Smongo Mamba.

Speaking on his appointment, Smongo Mamba emphasized that his role is to bring his expertise in singles and team leagues to assist in reviving pool as a sport in the Manzini-Matsapha zone. Although he hails from Hhohho, Mamba is committed to supporting the growth of pool in this region by sharing his knowledge and experience. He expressed a clear understanding of the committee’s vision and expectations moving forward.

Mamba highlighted the importance of the current sponsorship from Sphana Investment, which has contributed E110,000 towards the sport. He confirmed that Sphana Investment intends to continue its support, provided that the partnership remains well-managed. Mamba encouraged other potential sponsors to recognize the positive impact Sphana has made and to consider investing in pool sport.

He also pointed out the broader social benefits of pool, noting that sponsorship and investment in the sport could help address unemployment by creating livelihood opportunities. Mamba stressed the strategic inclusion of youth in pool tournaments as a way to nurture talent and provide a safe environment that promotes positive behavior. This approach helps young players develop skills and earn income while steering clear of negative influences.

Significantly, Mamba noted a shift in the sport’s culture pool is increasingly played in alcohol-free game rooms rather than bars. This change protects the sport’s image and creates a neutral space where people of all ages can participate together, fostering inclusivity and respect.

The formation of this interim committee follows ongoing efforts to merge the Manzini and Matsapha pool zones to strengthen competition and organization in the local leagues. With dedicated leadership and growing sponsorship, the Manzini-Matsapha Pool Zone aims to revitalize pool as a respected sport and social platform in the region.
