Africa-Press – Eswatini. Eswatini National Trust Commission (ENTC) in collaboration with Philani Maswati Charity Organisation will host a cultural exchange on 25 July 2025 at Mantenga Nature Reserve and Cultural Village, the event will bring together the San and Emaswati to celebrate shared heritage and promote cultural understanding.

The gathering will bring together communities with deep roots in Southern Africa,including the San, who once lived in parts of Eswatini centuries ago. Evidence of their presence remains in the form of rock paintings at Nsangwini and Sandlana.Through live demonstrations, storytelling, music, and spiritual practices, attendees will experience the living traditions of the San people alongside EmaSwati cultural expressions.

According to ENTC ,The San community members will showcase traditional survival skills such as foraging, fire-making, and the medicinal use of plants. Storytelling sessions from both cultures will create a space for intergenerational knowledge sharing, while the renowned San trance dance, known as the “Journey of the Giraffe,” which offers a glimpse into the spiritual life of the San people.

The San people, also known as the Bushmen, are among the oldest known indigenous communities in the world. Their populations span across Botswana, Namibia, Angola, Zambia, Zimbabwe, and South Africa. They are known for their unique click-based languages, the San have survived for generations as expert hunter-gatherers, guided by intimate knowledge of nature.

The San’s rock art, depicts daily life, animals, and spiritual beliefs,still decorates caves in parts of the country, offering a window into one of humanity’s oldest storytelling traditions.Historically semi-nomadic, the San adapted their movement patterns according to rainfall and wildlife migration.

The SAN-Bushmen x EmaSwati Cultural Exchange invites the public to witness a unique meeting of cultures, where tradition is not only remembered but lived. The event offers a rare opportunity to engage directly with Southern Africa’s oldest surviving culture and to celebrate the shared values that connect communities across time.
