Africa-Press – Eswatini. President of the Republic of Ghana Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has passed his appreciation to His Majesty King Mswati III and the people of Eswatini for supporting his country’s bid to host the Secretariat of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

The words of appreciation were extended to the King by Ghana’s High Commissioner to Eswatini Charles Owiredu when presenting his letters of credence at Lozitha Palace on Thursday.

He said the president also conveyed his gratitude to the country for diplomatically supporting the election of Ghana as a non-Permanent Member of the United Nations Security Council.

“My president extends his sincere appreciation to Your Majesty, the government and people of the Kingdom of Eswatini for your valuable support, which enabled Ghana to now host the Secretariat of the AfCFTA. Permit me also to express my deepest appreciation for the protocol and other arrangements placed at the disposal of my delegation and I since our arrival in the Kingdom of Eswatini for this memorable ceremony,” he said.

He said his country now hosted the Secretariat of the African Continental Free Trade Area, which he said was largely due to the support from Eswatini.
“Your valuable support as a country in Ghana’s bid shows your desire to see African countries trade among themselves without any barriers. Ghana counts on you to provide the necessary guidance and technical support to enable the secretariat to run smoothly.

Eswatini’s continued support is needed to assist Ghana achieve its mandate as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council. Ghana and Eswatini will further collaborate to bring world peace in international organisations, such as the United Nations, Commonwealth, and the non-aligned movement,” he said.

The ambassador committed to strengthen the bonds of cooperation between the two countries since the period of their independence.
He said the two countries had a lot in common historically, which he said defined necessary developments.

“Our common aspirations, cultural values and constitutional governance grant us the golden opportunity of working together to better the lot of our people.
“It is my desire to build upon our relationship and explore further, new areas of cooperation between our two countries,” the high commissioner said.
