DPM Delivers 40 Kwakitsi Blankets to Mankayane Home

Africa-Press – Eswatini. The Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) Thulisile Dladla, members of the Parliament Portfolio Committee, and the Kwakitsi Foundation visited the Mankayane Home for the Elderly and Disabled today, 11 August, to present 40 blankets donated by the Foundation, whose Patron is Princess Temtsimba. The blankets aim to provide warmth and comfort to residents during the winter season.

The visit follows the Foundation’s donation of the blankets to the DPM’s Office on August 5. During the handover, the DPM thanked the Kwakitsi Foundation for their generosity, describing the blankets as a gift of warmth, dignity, and compassion. She expressed hope for a lasting partnership to support similar institutions across the country.

“This here today serves as a reminder that the King’s vision is being achieved, as this donation from HRH Temtsimba shows that the King’s love for his people also lives in his children,” she said.

Representing Princess Temtsimba, Nomalungelo Dladla said the Foundation was committed to partnering with the DPM to reach those in need, adding that they were united in their mission to serve the community.

Mankayane Member of Parliament Bhekibandla Vilakati expressed gratitude for the donation and praised the DPM’s dedication to the most vulnerable. He also raised concern over reports of an elderly woman in the area facing abuse, requesting the DPM’s intervention.

Mankayane Mayor Bongani Dlamini also thanked the DPM for reminding the community of their responsibility to care for elders, noting that such acts of kindness bring blessings to those who give.

According to Nelisiwe Hlatshwayo, matron of the facility, the Home currently houses 18 elderly residents, 20 residents with disabilities, and three able-bodied residents. There are also two people in placement care and 21 staff members. She noted that special training for staff would be greatly appreciated. Hlatshwayo further reported that the facility has lost 12 residents in recent months.

The donation of blankets today is a step toward greater care and support for vulnerable people and those living with disabilities at Mankayane Home, inspiring hope for continued partnership and growth.
