TRICKY DRAW FOR SIHLANGU

Africa-Press – Eswatini. The national team Sihlangu will have a chance to redeem itself after getting a tricky draw in the upcoming 2022 COSAFA Cup.

The nation’s pride will take on Malawi, Lesotho and Mauritius in Group B of the annual regional showpiece following the draw conducted yesterday at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.

The tournament will run from July 5-17, where the squad will be looking to reach the finals of the tournament, having reached the semi-finals of the previous instalment in Gcebercha. The Dominic Kunene-led side secured a bronze medal in the previous edition after their defeat to guest nation, Senegal in the semi-finals. Senegal will be part of this year’s tournament as a guest nation.

Sihlangu’s head coach Kunene said it was a tough but fair draw.

“It is not an easy draw as it has been in the past but we will work hard to attain positive results. I have faith in my players and the technical team. I am adamant that we will do better this year and we will work extra hard as nothing beats determination,” he said.

Training

When asked how they would approach the COSAFA games, the former Young Buffaloes mentor said they were still going to discuss a training programme for the upcoming tournament with the technical team.

Sihlangu is fresh from back-to- back action in the 2023 AFCON Qualifiers, where they drew 2-2 with Togo before losing out by 1-3 against Burkina Faso.
