Smooth Traffic at Last on Kamhlaba Road

Africa-Press – Eswatini. KaMhlaba Road in Mbabane is finally giving parents and students a smoother start to the school day. This morning, parents dropping their children at schools along the road were met with a rare sight, traffic flowing without the usual gridlock from SOS to Sidwashini.

The road construction, which caused months of delays and frustration, has finally been completed. For the first time in months, school drop-offs happened without long waits or traffic jams. The third term began not only with new timetables but also with a much-needed improvement in road conditions.

Mlondi Dlamini, Chairperson of the Hermann Gemeiner School Committee, said the previous traffic situation made it very difficult to reach school on time. “Teachers and students were often late, and parents dropping students were delayed too. Learning was somehow disturbed,” he said.

He added that rainy days made the situation worse. “Some students would come to school dirty because of the muddy waters spilled on them,” Dlamini explained.

While road projects often come with challenges, Dlamini noted that the benefits are clear. “The road now is fine. Traffic is flowing, and there are no more delays. There will be fewer road accidents, especially since there are primary and pre-school children. Taxi drivers can drop off kids on time, and cars will not be damaged because of poor road conditions,” he said.

Dlamini took the opportunity to thank the Mbabane Municipal Council for completing the road works. He also urged all road users to drive safely and make good use of the improved road. With the traffic problems now behind them, students and teachers can focus better on learning. Less time spent in traffic means classes can start on time, making the term more productive. Parents are relieved, knowing their children can now travel safely to and from school.

“This is the final push for the school year,” Dlamini said. “With fewer distractions from traffic congestion, students and teachers can focus on teaching and learning. This will lead to better results at the end of the term.”

For many in the area, the improved KaMhlaba Road is not just a convenience but a boost to the school community and overall safety.
