Africa-Press – Eswatini. Representatives from Namibia’s National Disability Council, the National Federation of Persons with Disabilities, and the Ministry of Gender Equality, Poverty Eradication and Social Welfare met with Acting Deputy Prime Minister Jane Mkhonta Simelane in Mbabane to discuss ways to strengthen regional collaboration on disability inclusion.
The delegation included representatives from Namibia’s National Disability Council, the National Federation of Persons with Disabilities, and the Ministry of Gender Equality, Poverty Eradication and Social Welfare. It was led by Mr. Hashoongo, Chairperson of Namibia’s National Federation of Persons with Disabilities.
The visit forms part of a South-South Cooperation Learning Exchange between Namibia and Eswatini, supported by the United Nations Partnership on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNPRPD). It provides a platform to share good practices, exchange knowledge, and strengthen institutional arrangements for Organisations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs).
During the visit, discussions focused on mainstreaming disability across government programmes, advancing inclusive policies, and improving the capacity of OPDs. Delegates also explored opportunities for cooperation under regional and international frameworks, including the African Disability Protocol and the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
Acting Deputy Prime Minister Simelane reaffirmed Eswatini’s commitment to disability inclusion, saying the country is dedicated to promoting access to education, healthcare, and employment for persons with disabilities, ensuring no one is left behind.
UNFPA Representative Thamari Silindza pledged continued support for initiatives that uphold the rights of persons with disabilities. Dr. Ngcebo Mbuli, Chairperson of the National Advisory Council for Persons with Disabilities, said the exchange strengthens regional collaboration and encourages innovative approaches to implementing disability programmes.
The Namibian delegation will continue the learning exchange with meetings and discussions aimed at enhancing inclusive development across the region.
