Africa-Press – Eswatini. Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini, on behalf of His Majesty King Mswati III, Her Majesty the Indlovukazi, and the entire nation, has joined the international community in mourning with the people of Taiwan following the devastation caused by a powerful typhoon this week.
In his message of condolence, the Prime Minister expressed Eswatini’s solidarity with Taiwan, describing the tragic loss of lives and widespread destruction as a painful moment that touched not only Taiwan but also the hearts of emaSwati. He said the Government and people of Eswatini stood shoulder to shoulder with their friends in Taiwan during this period of grief.
“We are deeply saddened by the tragedy that has befallen the people of Taiwan. As a nation that shares a close and enduring friendship with Taiwan, Eswatini sends its heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved families, the injured, and all those affected. Our prayers are with the Government and people of Taiwan as they work tirelessly to recover and rebuild,” Dlamini said.
The Prime Minister further expressed admiration for the resilience of the Taiwanese people, noting their strength in facing past natural disasters. He added that Eswatini had no doubt that Taiwan would rise again, stronger and more united, despite the severe blow dealt by the storm.
According to international reports, the typhoon swept across Taiwan leaving a trail of destruction. Communities were submerged by floods, transport links were disrupted, and thousands of families were displaced. Rescue efforts are ongoing as emergency teams continue searching for missing persons and providing aid to survivors.
Eswatini remains Taiwan’s sole diplomatic ally in Africa, and the two nations have long enjoyed deep bilateral relations built on mutual respect, cooperation, and friendship. Dlamini reaffirmed that this bond extends beyond politics and trade, encompassing shared compassion during times of hardship.
“As Eswatini, we grieve with our brothers and sisters in Taiwan. Their pain is our pain, and their struggle is our struggle. We remain confident that light will shine through these dark days,” he said.
The Prime Minister concluded by urging emaSwati to keep the people of Taiwan in their thoughts and prayers as recovery efforts continue.
