Africa-Press – Eswatini. His Majesty King Mswati III has lauded the Eswatini Fire and Emergency Service for its exceptional versatility, courage, and dedication during a grand celebration marking the Service’s 50th Anniversary.
Presiding over the golden jubilee at Matsapha International Airport, the King commended the men and women of the department for their unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property, noting that their contribution extends well beyond conventional firefighting duties.
His Majesty highlighted that the Service’s ability to respond swiftly and effectively to diverse emergencies — from road accidents to devastating veld fires — has saved countless lives and earned the admiration of the nation. He emphasised that this wide-ranging capability places the Fire Service at the very heart of Eswatini’s social and economic development.
“The Service’s dedication and prompt response in times of crisis have earned it the deep gratitude of the business community and the people of Eswatini,” His Majesty declared.
Regional Recognition and Dedication Beyond Duty
The King praised the firefighters’ professionalism, which has gained recognition across Southern Africa through their participation in the SADC Emergency Response initiative, proudly “elevating Eswatini’s flag” on a regional stage.
His Majesty warmly welcomed visiting colleagues from across the SADC region who joined the commemorations, noting that their presence symbolised unity and shared commitment to saving lives.
He further applauded Eswatini’s firefighters for their continued readiness to serve, even beyond working hours, when they respond to emergencies within their communities. The King described this spirit of voluntary service as the truest expression of the nobility of their calling and urged all members to preserve the values of teamwork, courage, and compassion that underpin their profession.
A Call for Modernisation and Public Education
Looking ahead, His Majesty directed the Fire Service to embrace modern technology and advanced equipment to strengthen its capacity to deal with new challenges — particularly those posed by the growing number of high-rise buildings across the country.
He encouraged officers to pursue advanced professional training that aligns with international standards, stressing that investment in their expertise is an “investment in Eswatini’s safety and security”.
The King also praised the department’s public education initiatives, especially the radio programmes that teach citizens about fire prevention and emergency response. He described these campaigns as crucial to reducing fire incidents and protecting communities.

The 50th Anniversary ceremony featured heartfelt tributes and symbolic gestures of gratitude. His Majesty expressed appreciation for the gifts presented to the Royal Household, notably the contribution to Her Majesty the Indlovukazi’s Philani Maswati Organisation, which supports elderly citizens.
