Africa-Press – Eswatini. The Indalo Exhibition celebrates Eswatini’s rich craftsmanship, innovative design, and entrepreneurial talent after two successful years hosted abroad, showcasing local artisans on both domestic and international platforms.

The event marks a major step in positioning the Kingdom’s creative sector on the global stage. It was officially opened on October 27, 2025.

The exhibition, hosted at the Alliance Française de Mbabane, was officially opened by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Trade, with Mluleki Dlamini, Director of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), speaking on behalf of the Minister, Hon. Manqoba Khumalo. Dlamini emphasized the exhibition’s significance, noting that “this is more than a display of beautiful objects and creative handiwork; it represents the power of culture, design and entrepreneurship to open doors to the world.”

Organized by the International Trade Centre (ITC) and funded by the European Union (EU), the exhibition brings together local artisans, designers, and craft-makers. Dlamini highlighted that Eswatini’s creative talent has already gained international recognition, including at Paris Design Fashion Week, and that this homecoming exhibition celebrates national pride while creating new economic opportunities.

The Ministry expects the event to generate new market linkages, enhance capacity building, and promote inclusive entrepreneurial growth, particularly for youth and women in rural areas. Artisans were encouraged to showcase their unique stories, adhere to international quality standards, and leverage the Ministry’s support programs to strengthen their businesses.

Zodwa Vilakati, speaking on behalf of the Handicraft Department, thanked the ITC for its technical assistance, which has transformed many artisans from informal traders into fully registered small enterprises with access to international markets. She said the progress aligns with the National Handicraft Sector Policy, enhancing competitiveness and export readiness while improving incomes and reducing poverty.

Exhibitors such as Vusa Africa by Sharon Venancio and Mnqobi Mnisi from Makolotja Handicraft impressed visitors with their “Ludvonga (Wall) Collection,” handcrafted soapstone tiles bridging tradition and modern living. “There is a subtle joy in the grounding sound the stones make when they nest together, a sensory ritual of its own,” they explained.

Dlamini concluded by reaffirming the Ministry’s commitment to supporting the craft sector, stressing that thriving artisans create jobs, increase incomes, empower communities, and showcase Eswatini’s cultural heritage globally.

The Indalo Exhibition now stands as a vivid symbol of how creativity, culture, and commerce can unite to propel Eswatini’s artisans to international prominence.
