Africa-Press – Eswatini. The Correctional Services Staff Association has shared encouraging news following a salary review meeting held on November 12, 2025, at the Correctional Headquarters.
The meeting, attended by consultants from Emergence Human Capital and Umalusi Partners, revealed a report outlining proposed salary adjustments and improved allowances for officers across all ranks.
Major Salary Adjustments Proposed
The consultant’s report suggests substantial adjustments for several key ranks, particularly those in middle and senior levels.
Among the highlights:
– Sergeants, Sergeant Instructors, and Assistant Chief Officers are each proposed to receive an 18% salary adjustment.
– Chief Officers are proposed a 4% increment, while Warders II, Superintendents, and Senior Superintendents are set for adjustments between 1% and 2%.
– Additionally, all ranks are proposed to benefit from a 5% Correctional Allowance Increment.
The review marks a significant step in addressing long-standing calls for better remuneration, aimed at motivating personnel and aligning pay with responsibilities.
Boost in Allowances
A particularly uplifting development is the increase in the housing allowance, which has been reviewed from E600 to E2000. Other allowances, including Lunch-out, Travelling, and Plain Cloth allowances, have also been reviewed and introduced respectively, signaling a positive shift in the welfare of correctional officers.
Implementation details, however, will be finalized by the Ministry of Public Service, which is yet to issue the rollout plan.
Future Implementation and Back Pay
The consultant recommended that the adjustments be implemented ‘from Notch to Notch,’ conditionally. On back pay, the Ministry of Public Service is still deliberating on its position and the implementation plan. Despite this, the Staff Association assured members that it is actively engaging with government authorities to ensure the proposals are adopted and implemented fairly.
Next Steps
The Staff Association emphasized its commitment to transparency, revealing plans to host a detailed briefing meeting where members will receive the full report and further clarifications.
The Chairperson reaffirmed that the association remains steadfast in advocating for the welfare of all correctional officers, ensuring that their service to the nation is recognized and rewarded accordingly.
“We are encouraged by the progress made so far. While we await government’s final position, this review represents a positive step toward fair compensation and improved working conditions for all our members,” the association stated.
