Africa-Press – Eswatini. The Ministry of Labour and Social Security has announced that students intending to study in the Republic of South Africa, the Republic of Namibia, and at the Mbabane Campus of the University of Eswatini (UNESWA) may now begin applying for government scholarships.
The call was made in a statement issued on Wednesday, 12 November 2025, by the Principal Secretary in the Ministry, Makhosini Mndawe.
Mndawe explained that applications were now open through the online platform www.slas.gov.sz, and that interested students were encouraged to begin the process immediately. He stated that the closing date for all scholarship applications would be Friday, 5 December 2025, and no late submissions would be considered.
The Principal Secretary clarified that the scholarships were available only to students who had received final offer acceptance letters from universities or tertiary institutions that were recognised and sponsored by the Eswatini Government through the Ministry of Labour and Social Security. He said that students should familiarise themselves with the Government’s current list of priority programmes before applying, to ensure that their chosen courses were eligible for sponsorship. The priority list, he noted, could be accessed via the Ministry’s Facebook page, official website, or at the Scholarship Office.
According to the statement, the cut-off point for students applying to institutions outside the country would be 33 points, calculated from the best five subjects. The grading system allocates eight points for an A*, seven for an A, six for a B, five for a C, four for a D, and three for an E. Mndawe added that this system was designed to ensure that only academically deserving students benefited from the government scholarship programme.
He further urged students to read and understand the scholarship guidelines thoroughly before attempting to apply, in order to avoid mistakes that could lead to disqualification. Mr Mndawe emphasised that there were no application or assistance fees, warning students to be cautious of anyone attempting to solicit money in exchange for help with applications.
Students seeking assistance were advised to call the Ministry on 2404 2515, or to visit the Scholarship Office, located on the ground floor of the Income Tax Building in Mbabane, commonly known as etolishini.
Mndawe concluded by encouraging all eligible students to take advantage of the opportunity and apply within the stipulated time frame.
