Africa-Press – Eswatini. Senator Stukie Patricia Motsa was conferred with an Honorary Doctor of Philosophy in Humanitarian, Governance and Advocacy by Gideon Robert University of Zambia. The conferment took place on 23 January 2026 at The George Hotel in Manzini.
The honour recognises her long standing commitment to inclusive governance, social justice, and advocacy for vulnerable groups. The honorary doctorate was awarded by Gideon Robert University of Zambia as part of its efforts to recognise leaders whose work extends beyond academia and delivers tangible impact in communities. Senator Motsa becomes the first LiSwati to receive such an honour from a Zambian institution of higher learning.
Speaking as Guest of Honour, Minister of Education and Training Honourable Owen Nxumalo said the conferment brought pride to Eswatini and reflected Senator Motsa’s tireless efforts to advance dignity, justice, and equal opportunities for EmaSwati. He described Gideon Robert University as a reputable institution known for academic excellence and ethical leadership.
“Honourable Stukie Motsa has today brought great pride to our nation through this recognition of her unwavering focus and pursuit of sensitising the world to the daily realities faced by our people in their quest for self worth, justice, and equal opportunities,” said Nxumalo. “You have indeed put Eswatini on the map, dzadze wetfu.”
Nxumalo further urged citizens to emulate Senator Motsa’s example by investing their individual efforts and resources towards improving the lives of the vulnerable and less fortunate, enabling them to contribute meaningfully to national development.
Receiving the honorary doctorate, Senator Dr Stukie Motsa said she accepted the recognition with humility, noting that it represented the collective efforts of communities and individuals who believe leadership must be anchored in service.
“I receive this honour not as a personal achievement alone, but as a recognition of the collective efforts of many individuals and communities who believe, as I do, that leadership must always be anchored in service,” she said.
She described humanitarian governance and advocacy as lived responsibilities rather than abstract concepts, emphasising that governance should prioritise justice over convenience and people over power.
“Throughout my public service, I have learned that true leadership listens before it speaks, serves before it demands, and protects before it presides,” said Senator Motsa. “Governance, at its best, is the discipline to translate compassion into policy and action.”
Senator Motsa said the honorary doctorate strengthened her resolve to continue championing inclusive governance, social justice, and human centered development, adding that ethical leadership and integrity remain critical in public service.
The ceremony was attended by senior government officials including the Minister of Information and Communication Technology Honourable Savanna Maziya, members of the university council, academicians, family, friends, and members of the media.
