Africa-Press – Eswatini. As the annual weeding of Their Majesties’ fields draws to a close, chiefs in the Hhohho Region have confirmed their full readiness to host Their Majesties and the nation for the upcoming Buganu ceremony at Buhleni Royal Residence.
The Buganu ceremony, one of Eswatini’s most significant cultural events, will be the next major national gathering following Incwala. Chiefs interviewed across the Hhohho Region expressed excitement and confidence in their preparations, describing the event as both a cultural honour and a major attraction for visitors from within the country and beyond its borders.
Chief of Ntfonjeni, Prince Magudvulela, said hosting Their Majesties and the nation is always a blessing for the region and a source of great pride for the community.
“We are always ready to welcome His Majesty, Her Majesty and the entire nation. Although we experienced a destructive hailstorm a few months ago around Buhleni and Mkhuzweni, which damaged crops, we are grateful that the recent rains have not negatively affected the marula fruit,” he said.
Prince Magudvulela emphasised that, despite occasional challenges, the region remains resilient and well prepared to ensure the success of such an important national event.
“Regardless of any difficulties that may arise, we always have alternative plans in place. We are very excited about the upcoming Buganu ceremony, and spirits are high among the emabutfo following their participation in the Incwala ceremony,” he added.
The chief also welcomed recent developments in the region, particularly the completion of a new royal kraal at Ludzeludze Royal Residence, which he described as a significant achievement for the community.
“The nation has worked hard. Now that Incwala has concluded, we look forward to Buganu with great joy. It is always a delight to host the nation during this important cultural season,” he said.
Echoing similar sentiments, Hhelehhele Chief Prince Ndlaludzaka II confirmed that the Hhohho Region is fully prepared to host the ceremony, while also highlighting some challenges brought about by persistent rainfall.
“We are ready to welcome Their Majesties and the nation to the Hhohho Region. However, the ongoing rains have caused damage to roads in areas such as Malanti, Pigg’s Peak and Hhelehhele,” he said.
Prince Ndlaludzaka II noted that continuous rainfall has also affected crops, including the marula fruit, in some areas. Nevertheless, he stressed that these challenges would not dampen the region’s commitment to hosting a successful Buganu ceremony.
“Despite these challenges, we remain prepared and eager to receive Their Majesties and the nation for this annual cultural event,” he said.
As anticipation builds, the readiness expressed by Hhohho chiefs reflects the unity, resilience and cultural pride that continue to define Eswatini’s traditional calendar, with Buganu expected to once again bring together the nation in celebration.
