Africa-Press – Eswatini. Members of the Umbutfo Eswatini Defence Force (UEDF) have once again demonstrated vigilance and commitment to national security after successfully intercepting a livestock smuggling operation at Goboyane in the Lubombo Region.
During a late-night patrol, UEDF troops stopped a vehicle found transporting 35 goats believed to have been stolen and destined for illegal sale across the border into South Africa. Three men were arrested on the spot, while the vehicle and recovered livestock were promptly handed over to law enforcement authorities for further investigation and processing.
The interception highlights the persistent challenge of livestock smuggling along Eswatini’s borders, despite repeated warnings from authorities and intensified patrols. Livestock theft remains a serious concern for rural communities, where animals are a critical source of livelihood, food security, and cultural wealth.
Authorities have expressed concern that while such successful operations continue to disrupt criminal networks, similar activities may still be slipping through undetected. This reality has renewed calls for stronger community cooperation, information sharing, and continued multi-agency collaboration to protect farmers and safeguard the national herd.
The latest operation stands as a clear reminder that security forces remain alert and proactive, sending a strong message that illegal cross-border activities will not go unchecked.
