No further School Postponement Reopening Set for 2026

Africa-Press – Eswatini. The Ministry of Education and Training has assured the nation that there will be no further delays in the reopening of schools. Minister Owen Nxumalo said this during an interview at the George Hotel on 23 January 2026.

Minister of Education and Training has dismissed rumors, confirming that schools across Eswatini will officially reopen on 27 January 2026, not 3 February.

Minister Owen said preparations are well underway to ensure a smooth start to the academic year. “The delivery of food and stationery to schools is already ongoing, and renovations and construction work at affected schools are progressing to provide a safe and conducive learning environment for our learners,” he said.

The Minister acknowledged that some schools are still undergoing construction, particularly those affected by hailstorm damage in certain districts. “While we are pushing contractors to complete the work as quickly as possible, some schools may not be fully ready by Tuesday. We ask for patience from teachers, parents, and learners at these schools as repairs and construction continue,” he added.

The Ministry has emphasized that all efforts are being made to minimize disruptions to the academic calendar. Officials are closely monitoring construction progress and the delivery of essential supplies, including textbooks, stationery, and school meals, to ensure that all learners can start the year without further delays.

Parents and guardians are encouraged to prepare their children for classes, while teachers are advised to make arrangements for schools that may still be partially under construction. The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to providing a safe, well-equipped, and conducive learning environment for every learner.

Minister Nxumalo’s announcement ends days of uncertainty regarding the reopening date, providing clarity to learners, parents, and educators ahead of the new academic year.
