Africa-Press – Eswatini. Minister of Public Works and Transport Chief Ndlaluhlaza says government is working on a permanent solution to address roads damaged by recent heavy rains across the country.
The minister was speaking after guiding Prime Minister Russell Dlamini on an inspection tour of flood-damaged roads in northern Hhohho. He thanked the Prime Minister for personally assessing the damage, despite the responsibility falling under his ministry.
“We urge the nation to be patient as we work towards a permanent solution to prevent this kind of damage in the future,” said Chief Ndlaluhlaza.
He explained that the delegation could not inspect the entire country and instead selected some of the most affected areas to give the Prime Minister a clear picture of the extent of the damage nationwide.
The inspection began on the MR1 road in Motshane, before proceeding towards Maguga.
Chief Ndlaluhlaza noted that some of the damaged sections were areas previously affected by heavy rains and later repaired by the ministry. He said one of the major challenges involved roads constructed using calvert iron sheets underneath, an outdated method that has since been replaced by concrete construction.
From Piggs Peak to Nginamandvolo via Nsangwini, the Prime Minister also inspected severely damaged gravel roads.
The minister echoed the Prime Minister’s remarks that government would seek additional funding to repair the damaged roads. He added that the repair of damaged bridges would take longer, as many of them require urgent attention
