Africa-Press – Eswatini. Preparations for the opening of the Third Session of the 12th Parliament are at an advanced stage, with Parliament authorities working to ensure that all logistical arrangements are completed well ahead of time.
Key facilities, including the broadcasting studio and alternative power supply systems, have already been put in place as part of efforts to guarantee a smooth and uninterrupted event.
Speaking on the progress made so far, the Clerk to Parliament, Benedict Xaba, said Parliament was leaving nothing to chance this year. He explained that lessons had been drawn from previous openings, prompting officials to place greater emphasis on infrastructure and technical readiness, particularly in relation to power supply.
Xaba noted that uninterrupted power is critical for the successful hosting of the event, especially given the importance of live broadcasting and real-time communication. He said alternative power sources had been secured to ensure that the proceedings are not disrupted in the event of power outages.
He further highlighted the importance of the studio, which he said would play a central role in ensuring that information about the opening of Parliament is disseminated to the public in real time. According to Xaba, the studio will enable timely coverage of the proceedings, allowing citizens across the country to follow developments as they happen.
In addition to the studio and power supply arrangements, Xaba said preparations also include the pitching of the marquee, which will accommodate invited guests and other participants during the ceremony. He explained that this is part of the broader logistical setup aimed at ensuring comfort, order, and proper coordination on the day of the event.
Xaba also revealed that rehearsals for the opening of Parliament are scheduled to begin next Wednesday. He said the initial rehearsal will allow organisers and participants to identify any gaps or challenges that may need to be addressed before the actual event. He added that further rehearsals will follow to ensure that all aspects of the programme run seamlessly.
Despite the advanced stage of preparations, the date for the official opening of Parliament has not yet been announced. Xaba said His Majesty King Mswati III is yet to confirm the date on which the event will take place. He assured the public, however, that once the date is confirmed, Parliament will be ready to host the event without any difficulties.
The opening of Parliament is a significant national event, marking the formal commencement of parliamentary business for the year and outlining the legislative agenda ahead.
