Swift Police Response to Standard Bank Robbery Attempt

Africa-Press – Eswatini. Manzini woke up to heightened security activity on Thursday morning following another reported bank robbery incident, just days after criminals targeted a nearby financial institution.

The Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS) has confirmed that an attempted robbery occurred at Standard Bank in the early hours of February 12, 2026. According to preliminary investigations, suspects gained entry into the building through the roof in what authorities believe was a carefully planned operation.

Police patrol officers who were monitoring the area responded swiftly and arrested a 45-year-old man from Maliyaduma at approximately 04:45. The suspect was found in possession of a crowbar and a bolt cutter, tools believed to have been used to gain access to the premises. While one suspect is now in custody assisting with investigations, another individual managed to escape and remains at large.

The latest incident comes only two days after criminals reportedly made away with a large sum of money during a robbery at Eswatini Bank, located a short distance from the latest crime scene. The proximity and timing of the incidents have intensified investigations as law enforcement works to determine whether the cases may be linked.

Police say the swift arrest highlights the effectiveness of increased patrols and rapid response efforts aimed at protecting businesses and the public. Investigators are continuing with interviews, evidence collection, and follow-up operations to track down the remaining suspect and uncover the full circumstances surrounding the attempted robbery.

REPS has appealed to members of the public to assist with information that could help advance the investigation. Anyone with relevant details is encouraged to contact Manzini RCBO A/Superintendent Derrick Makhanya on 7606 4483, Inspector Vilane on 7611 5941, or the Manzini Desk Officer Inspector Madlopha on 7603 2658.

Authorities have reassured the public that security operations remain active and that all necessary measures are being taken to safeguard financial institutions and communities as investigations continue.
