Africa-Press – Eswatini. His Majesty Mswati III has underscored the importance of transforming the country’s education system through technology, skills development and curriculum reform.
Delivering the Speech from the Throne during the State Opening of the Third Session of the 12th Parliament on Friday, 20 February 2026, the King said one of the Kingdom’s national priorities was to equip schools with the necessary technology to prepare learners for a rapidly evolving world.
“Our national goals include equipping our education system with the required technology that will transform our pupils’ lives and help them understand the world better,” His Majesty said.
He noted that young people were particularly well-positioned to harness technology, as they are already highly active in digital spaces. However, he encouraged them to reflect on how they use these platforms.
“The youth are well-placed to use technology, as they are very active in this space. We encourage the youth to consider what value addition is created from the time spent engaging with technology,” the King stated.
His Majesty emphasised that the country’s aspiration was to ensure universal access to education, unlike in the past when many adults did not have the benefit of Free Primary Education.
“Our wish is to see that all our youth are educated, unlike in the past when many adults did not receive the opportunity of free primary education,” he said.
The King congratulated learners who had successfully passed their examinations, expressing satisfaction at the strong performances recorded in some regions. At the same time, he acknowledged that other regions had not performed as well and called for a thorough assessment of the causes behind the underperformance.
“While some regions were not as strong, we need to investigate the cause of this underperformance,” he said.
His Majesty further informed the nation that curriculum reforms were underway within the education system, aimed at aligning learning outcomes with national development goals and global trends.
“We urge all stakeholders to work together to ensure that it delivers the targeted skills development,” he said, adding that teacher training must also be prioritised to ensure educators are fully equipped to implement the reforms effectively.
The King’s remarks highlighted education as a cornerstone of national transformation and a critical driver of sustainable development.
