KING OUTLINES ESWATINI’S INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS PRIORITIES

Africa-Press – Eswatini. His Majesty Mswati III has reaffirmed the Kingdom of Eswatini’s commitment to strengthening international cooperation and advancing regional peace and stability.

Delivering the Speech from the Throne during the State Opening of the Third Session of the 12th Parliament on Friday, 20 February 2026, the King said the country would continue working closely with international organisations and the global community in advancing shared ideals.

“The Kingdom of Eswatini will continue to work with international organisations and the global community in advancing the ideals of the United Nations, the African Union, COMESA and Southern African Development Community,” His Majesty said.

The King announced that Eswatini would this year assume the Chairmanship of the SADC Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation (Troika), a key regional structure responsible for promoting peace and security within the bloc.

“As a country, this year we will assume the Chairmanship of the SADC Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation (Troika),” he said.

His Majesty committed the Kingdom to working diligently to advance peace-building efforts across the region.

“We commit ourselves to working hard in efforts aimed at achieving peace in the region. These structures have been established to ensure harmony and social cohesion for our people,” he stated.

The King emphasised that regional bodies exist to promote good neighbourly relations among member states, grounded in mutual respect and adherence to constitutional governance.

“They are meant to promote good neighbourly relations between states that foster mutual respect and deter the use of unconstitutional means to exert personal interests over another,” he said.

Eswatini, he added, would be guided by SADC frameworks and collaborate closely with fellow member states to fulfil the objectives of the Organ, while striving to leave a memorable and positive legacy during its tenure.

His Majesty further noted that the country would continue pursuing the objectives of the African Union’s Agenda 2063, aimed at achieving “The Africa We Want” — a vision anchored in peace, cooperation and shared prosperity, in line with the principles of the UN Charter.

“We denounce conflict and violence and call upon every country to operate within the confines of law and order, respecting their constitutions,” the King declared.

His remarks underscored Eswatini’s continued commitment to diplomacy, lawful governance and regional solidarity in an increasingly complex global landscape.
