Africa-Press – Eswatini. The Hawane Christian Life Community (CLC) Church is turning to sport as a powerful tool for community transformation through an upcoming fundraising campaign designed to support the construction of a church sanctuary that will serve the people of Hawane for generations to come.
The sports fundraising event is scheduled for 02 May 2026 at the CLC Sand Sport Ground, starting at 9am, and will feature netball (five-a-side), ladies’ soccer (seven-a-side) and men’s soccer (seven-a-side). The initiative is expected to draw teams, families, supporters and local businesses for a day filled with activity, unity and purpose.
Speaking in an exclusive interview, Rev Timothy Makhanya said the event is part of a broader vision of holistic community development led by the church.
“Hawane CLC Church is a community-based church seeking to do transformation holistically. The Lord mandated us to build a community centre church that will serve the community with a sanctuary for fellowship. We have completed building a preschool that has two classrooms. The sports event is aimed to raise funds to build the sanctuary,” he said.
He explained that the church’s work is not limited to spiritual matters alone but extends to education, youth development and social upliftment. The completed preschool stands as evidence of this commitment, and the next milestone is the sanctuary that will become a centre for worship, gatherings and community programmes.
In addition to the sporting action, organisers have prepared a raffle draw loaded with prizes. Among the highlights are a breakfast voucher at Mount View Restaurant, an air fryer and several other exciting giveaways.
On the field of play, winners will receive donated soccer jerseys, a new netball jersey for women, prizes for the first runner in the retired category, awards for excellence in aerobics, and prizes for positions one to three across various sporting categories.
Food stalls will be available on the day, and local entrepreneurs are encouraged to book stalls to sell or advertise their businesses for a small fee. The church believes this will add value to the event while empowering small businesses in the area.
Community members wishing to participate, register a team, book a stall or seek more information can contact the Fundraising Team Secretary, Bindza, on +268 7697 0137.
The Hawane Sports Fundraising Campaign is more than just a day of games — it is a step towards building a lasting place of worship and a centre of hope for the Hawane community. Through sport, fellowship and unity, the church is inviting everyone to be part of a meaningful journey that blends faith with practical community development.
