Africa-Press – Eswatini. His Majesty King Mswati III has called on soldiers to strengthen their role in defending peace, unity, and national stability during the 53rd Army Day celebrations at Nokwane Army Barracks.

The King shared that the responsibility of soldiers has expanded in modern times, requiring them to address not only traditional threats but also emerging societal challenges.

“We must recognize that the nature of our ‘enemies’ has evolved,” he said.

“A soldier today must not only stand against physical aggression but also against instability, lawlessness, and national division.”

He stressed that safeguarding peace extends to every corner of the country, including rural communities and schools. According to His Majesty, ensuring a secure environment for citizens, especially young people, is a national priority that demands constant vigilance from the armed forces.

The King commended the army’s discipline and readiness, noting that their visible presence remains critical in maintaining order. “To serve the nation is to be the shield that guards the peace,” he stated.

Addressing the impact of technological advancements, the King urged soldiers to continuously upgrade their skills. He emphasized that while technology is reshaping global warfare, it should complement, not replace, the human element. “Boots on the ground remain the most vital component of peacekeeping and national security,” he said.

The King also acknowledged the importance of partnerships, thanking international allies for their support in training, infrastructure, and equipment. He noted that such collaborations strengthen Eswatini’s defence capacity and enable participation in regional peacekeeping missions.

In his closing remarks, the King encouraged soldiers to remain disciplined and united in their mission. He assured them of the nation’s unwavering support, stating that their dedication continues to inspire confidence and pride among emaSwati.

The celebration concluded with renewed commitment from the army to uphold peace, stability, and national unity across the Kingdom.
