Africa-Press – Eswatini. His Majesty King Mswati III has commended the Umbutfo Eswatini Defence Force for strengthening national confidence through discipline, humanitarian service, and strong community relations during the 53rd Army Day at Nokwane Army Barracks.
In his address, the King explained the importance of civil-military relations, noting that strong ties between soldiers and communities are essential for national development.
“You are called to serve the people. Selfless service, loyalty, and discipline must remain the pillars you embrace daily,” he said.
He praised the army’s humanitarian efforts, including disaster response, search and rescue operations, and emergency transport services. According to His Majesty, these initiatives have strengthened public trust and demonstrated the army’s commitment to serving the nation in all circumstances.
The King highlighted the collaboration between the army and other national institutions, particularly in addressing emergencies. He described the partnership with the National Disaster Management Agency as “commendable and lifesaving,” noting that such cooperation enhances the country’s resilience.
Health and fitness were also emphasized as key priorities. The King encouraged soldiers to maintain high standards of physical well-being, stating that a strong military contributes to a strong nation. “A healthy military is the guarantor of a healthy nation,” he said.
He further acknowledged the role of development partners in supporting military programs, including healthcare services and infrastructure. These partnerships, he noted, extend benefits beyond the army to the broader population.
The King also commended the army’s collaboration with other security agencies in combating crime and corruption. He stressed that joint efforts are essential in maintaining peace and creating an environment conducive to economic growth. “By working together, you create the peace that is a prerequisite for prosperity,” he said.
The celebrations concluded with vibrant displays of military excellence, reinforcing confidence in the country’s defence capabilities. Army Day served as a powerful reminder of the army’s multifaceted role in protecting, supporting, and uplifting the nation.
