17-MEMBER TEAM ANNOUNCED FOR LESOTHO YOUTH GAMES

Africa-Press – Eswatini. The Chief Executive Officer of the Eswatini Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association (EOCGA) has confirmed a 17-member delegation for the upcoming Lesotho Youth Games, scheduled to take place in Maseru, Lesotho, from 1–4 October 2025.

EOCGA Board Member, Sibusiso Matsenjwa, will serve as Chef de Mission, leading the team. Eswatini will compete in four sporting codes: Athletics, Taekwondo, Boxing, and Chess.

The Youth Games are designed to give young athletes an opportunity to compete at regional level, gain international exposure, and prepare for bigger stages such as the African Games and Olympic qualifiers. For Eswatini, this competition comes at a crucial time, as the country continues to invest in grassroots development while promoting the Olympic values of excellence, friendship, and respect.

EOCGA officials emphasized that the selected athletes have undergone intensive preparation and will use the Games not only as a platform to compete, but also to learn from their peers across the region. The event will also provide networking opportunities for coaches and administrators to strengthen ties with other National Olympic Committees.

“It’s worth mentioning that last year was the first time we attended the Lesotho Youth Games, where we produced stellar performances and came back with a number of medals. This year, we are determined to go a step further and dominate,” said EOCGA Communications Officer, Mkhulisi Dlamini. “Last year we featured in teqball, while this time we are introducing chess. This reflects our vision of incorporating more sporting codes at development level.”

Participation in Maseru is expected to inspire more young athletes across Eswatini to pursue sport competitively, while also fostering regional solidarity through healthy competition.
