Africa-Press – Eswatini. The Eswatini Angling Association (EAA) reels in yet another lucrative angling event set for Maguga Dam between September 16 and 17.
The EAA recently sent a 12-man team to South Africa (SA) at the Loskop Dam, where they took part in the Region V Bass tournament. The Eswatini team competed against hosts, SA as well as Zambia and Zimbabwe. Eswatini finished in third place with 74 catches and an overall weight of 93.572kg. Before the Region V tournament, the anglers in the country featured in the Bucketlist Challenge, which had a duration of two days at Sand River Dam on July 15 and 16. Craig Stephan was the biggest winner of the two-day competition, as he managed to reel in a 5.07kg bass, which earned him E15 000.

Bass is a name shared by many species of fish. The term encompasses both freshwater and marine species, all belonging to perch-like fish. However, even though he was able to pocket E15 000, he was a little undone by missing the 6kg bass, which would have afforded him a whopping E100 000 for the biggest catch category. The Bucketlist Challenge also featured a new category, which was the barble category and it was said that it might be featured for the Maguga Dam Bass Challenge as well. Only one barble was caught in the two days of angling, which Nata Olivier reeled in.
The anglers present at the Bucketlist Challenge made sure to pledge their availability for the Maguga Dam Bass Challenge as they had a great angling experience at Sand River Dam.
President of the EAA, Derek Hopf, mentioned that they would bring back the raffle draw, which was an effort of their sponsors. Initially, the raffle draw was aimed at awarding the anglers, who get fourth place all the way to 10th. The sponsors availed items like cooler boxes, eggs and insurance policies, to name a few.
Accommodate
Worth mentioning is that the Maguga Dam Bass Challenge will accommodate more anglers on the dam than Sand River, did simply because of the different circumferences of the two dams. As mentioned before, the numbers for the Bucketlist were purposefully limited because of the safety of the anglers, as the dam was smaller. The anglers this time around have a better chance of winning the E100 000 cash prize on top of the E15 000 for the biggest catch category. Instead of aiming to catch a bass weighing 6kg and above, the anglers now have a target of at least 5.4kg. The dam structure is made of timber and is well known for a world record in Southern Africa of bass fishing. Bass between 2.5kg to 5.0kg can be expected and anglers should have in prospect heavy line and sturdy tackle.
