7TH ON THE HILL HOTEL SET TO TRANSFORM SHISELWENI’S ECONOMY

Africa-Press – Eswatini. The under-construction 7th On The Hill Hotel is poised to transform the economic landscape of the Shiselweni Region and the whole of Eswatini, particularly within Matsanjeni South Inkhundla, by stimulating growth across multiple industries including education, engineering, tourism, hospitality, and technology.

Officially launched by His Majesty King Mswati III on Wednesday, 15 October 2025, the ambitious project marks a significant step towards revitalising the drought-prone area of Qomintaba, which has long been regarded as one of the most underdeveloped parts of Eswatini.

His Majesty described the project as a symbol of hope and progress, urging its pioneers to ensure that it becomes a catalyst for growth within Eswatini’s tourism sector. “Tourism presents a great opportunity to create jobs and improve livelihoods. Through projects like this, our people can put food on the table and our economy can continue to grow,” he said.

The King congratulated the 150 emaSwati who have already secured employment under the project, noting that more opportunities would arise as construction progresses. He emphasised that countries that had invested heavily in tourism were now reaping immense rewards, attracting millions of visitors annually and generating substantial revenue.

The E1 billion investment aims to deliver a world-class five-star hotel, complete with luxury accommodation, a fine dining restaurant, modern offices, and a state-of-the-art handcraft centre to promote local artisanship. The development will also include residential plots and major social infrastructure.

To make way for the project, 14 homesteads were relocated, and all affected families have been fully compensated with newly built and improved homes. According to project officials, the new homesteads will be ready for occupation by the end of this month.

The development will unfold in three phases:

Phase One, estimated at E200 million, will cover the initial hotel structures and essential facilities.

Phase Two, valued at E300 million, will focus on expanding the hotel’s amenities and infrastructure.

Phase Three, with an investment of E500 million, will encompass educational and residential developments.

Future plans include the construction of a school offering classes from Grade R to Form 5, and a university specialising in technology, engineering, tourism, and health sciences. These additions aim to create a sustainable education and skills ecosystem within the region.

His Majesty also planted a commemorative tree at the site, symbolising the royal endorsement and long-term vision for the project.

The initiative is chaired by Noah Nyawo, with key figures such as Prince Majaha and Luscious Magagula also playing instrumental roles in its development.

Following his tour of the hotel site, His Majesty King Mswati III proceeded to Lavumisa, where he officially opened the Royal Jozini Private Game Reserve, another key tourism development expected to complement the broader economic transformation of southern Eswatini.
