Africa-Press – Eswatini. Sifiso Khumalo, the Attorney General(AG) fears that terrorists might attack eSwatini upon hearing that, one of their own has been dumped by the United States(US) and jailed in the tiny Kingdom situated in Southern Africa.
The AG came hard on Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini saying he warned him not to sign the agreement with the US without amendments, this was during a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday morning and the information was subsequently leaked .
The agreement according to the AG, allows the United States to dump criminals including dangerous terrorists in eSwatini, he expressed serious concerns saying the agreement,in its current form, undermines State security.
Tension escalated in the tiny Kingdom of eSwatini after a huge flight from the United States arrived at the King Mswati International Airport last week and dumped criminals who were rejected by their respective countries.
The dangerous criminals are from Laos, Jamaica, Vietnam, Cuba and Yemen, they were previously convicted of child rape, murder and robbery among other serious crimes.
Acting Government Spokesperson Thabile Mdluli released a statement clarifying the issue, she said such “agreements are done with meticulous care” and consideration assuring the citizens that the criminal are not a threat to the public and/or State security.
“The Kingdom of Eswatini and the United States of America have enjoyed fruitful bilateral relations spanning over five decades. As such, every agreement entered into is done with meticulous care and consideration, putting the interests of both Nations at the forefront”, reads the Government statement in part.
But even on this particular statement, the Attorney General was allegedly not consulted as he expressed this on the Cabinet Whatsap group last week Wednesday before the meeting that took place on Tuesday this week.
“All agreements, treaties, conventions or documents by whatever name called can not be concluded without the Attorney General in terms of Section 77 of the Constitution”, the Attorney General wrote in the Cabinet Whatsap Group communication leaked to editor Zweli Martin Dlamini.
Eswatini is ruled by King Mswati as an absolute Monarch, the Prime Minister who allegedly signed the agreement was not elected but appointed by the King.
Mswati’s Spokesperson Percy Simelane said, the King was not involved in the signing of the agreement.
