Africa-Press – Eswatini. That is the message a section of the Mbabane Swallows supporters carried for their current management committee (MC) and then team Governor Sandile ‘Beyond 2000’ Zwane, now in the Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) Executive Committee.
Zwane is believed to be still part of the Swallows managerial structure amid his position in the PLE, at least that is what the supporters argue about.
In the game against Young Buffaloes on Saturday at Mavuso Sports Centre, Manzini, Swallows lost for the fourth time in eight consecutive games, this time to bitter rivals Young Buffaloes who edged them 3-2.
Just not the result fans wanted but expected given earlier media reports of players going on strike, shunning training due to unpaid salaries.
The supporters did not hide their feelings soon after the game, with some carrying placards calling for the MC to step down and allow new people to lead next season.
Swallows protesting against the current MC on Saturday at Mavuso Sports Centre.
“New season, new management committee. No money, no salaries for players,” read some of their placards.
Those interviewed under conditions of anonymity mentioned Zwane’s name, saying he had been the pillar of the club for sometime but they were tired of him and wanted new blood now.
“We’ve been up and down with Zwane but now it’s thank you to him, we want new people,” said one of the supporters in one of the online publications.
It is worth mentioning that Zwane is not among those listed in the team’s MC. Swallows Public Relations Officer (PRO) Knowledge Ngwenya had been going on air calling for supporters to contribute financially as they were struggling as a club.
The last appeal was for injured star Khayelihle ‘Karas’ Magagula who needed over E20 000 for scans on his injured knee over a fortnight ago.
He had not spoken about players’ salaries but it turned out they have not been able to meet the salary requirements.
It was reported by two local dailies on Friday that players had downed tools ahead of losing 3-2 to Buffaloes. The players had reportedly threatened not to even honour the match. However, they did go to the match and lost.
“Kubhizi (It’s busy),” responded Ngwenya.
He would not say much about the situation but acknowledged seeing the supporters with the placards.
