Africa-Press – Eswatini. The Black Friday opening of Boxer Superstores in Mbabane on November 28, 2025 marks more than just a new shopping destination; it is a significant step towards empowering EmaSwati through employment and skills development.
The store has about 70 staff from towns and communities across Eswatini. Their roles are ranging from sales assistants, cashiers, stock staff. It provides young people and experienced workers alike with opportunities to gain practical skills, earn income, and contribute to the national economy.
Jeremiah Mkhonta, Regional Manager for Boxer Superstores, highlighted the broader impact of the opening: “We employ about 70 people in different positions. Many of our staff come from various parts of Eswatini, making this a nationwide effort. Our goal is not just to provide jobs but also to develop skills and build a workforce that can grow with the company.”
Boxer Mbabane is the chain’s eighth store in the country, following locations in Nhlangano, Manzini, Matsapha, Siteki, Piggs Peak, Simunye, and Ntjaneni. Mkhonta revealed that expansion plans are underway for areas such as Siphofaneni, Mankayane, and Buhleni, reflecting Boxer’s ambition to create employment opportunities nationwide.
The significance of the store extends beyond employment. Shoppers welcomed the opening, expressing excitement at having access to quality goods while supporting a business that invests in Eswatini’s workforce. Musa Mavuso, who lives in Mangwaneni, said, “I love shopping at Boxer. I used to travel to Manzini or Matsapha for groceries. Now, having a store in Mbabane is convenient, and I’m glad it created jobs for people from all over Eswatini.”
Students also reflected on the empowerment aspect. Silindzile Dlamini, a student at Limkokwing University, said, “I can’t wait to receive my allowance on December 1,2025 to come and buy. Today, I just came to see the prices and explore what is available. It is encouraging to see a business that creates opportunities for people like me.”
Mkhonta reassured the public that despite earlier delays, the store is fully operational. “Everything we needed to finish is now complete. Boxer Mbabane is ready to welcome customers, and it stands as a contributor to employment and skills development for EmaSwati across the nation,” he said.
With about 70 jobs created and opportunities for skills acquisition, Boxer Mbabane represents a positive development for both the economy and the empowerment of EmaSwati, combining retail convenience with meaningful socio-economic impact.
