Africa-Press – Eswatini. The 8th edition of the Ingwenyama Cup has produced a thrilling Last 16 line-up, headlined by heavyweight clashes involving Mbabane Highlanders, Nsingizini Hotspurs and a fiery armed forces derby.

The draw was conducted on Monday, 16 February 2026, at the Sincephetelo Motor Vehicle Accident Fund (SMVAF) state-of-the-art auditorium, where excitement and anticipation filled the air as team representatives gathered to witness the proceedings.

The standout fixture sees capital city giants Mbabane Highlanders – affectionately known as ‘Bull’ – drawn against reigning MTN Premier League champions Nsingizini Hotspurs. The encounter is expected to draw massive crowds, given the pedigree and recent form of both sides.

Highlanders remain one of the most decorated clubs in the country, while Nsingizini have established themselves as a dominant force in recent seasons. Their meeting promises high-intensity football, tactical discipline and a battle for supremacy between tradition and modern dominance.

Forces Derby Sparks Excitement

Equally compelling is the armed forces derby, where Royal Leopard will take on Green Mamba in what is always a fiercely contested affair. Matches between the two security forces sides are traditionally physical, emotionally charged and closely fought, making this one of the most anticipated fixtures of the round.

Supporters from both camps are expected to turn up in numbers as pride and bragging rights will be on the line.

All-Mbabane Clash

Another exciting tie will see Umkhonto KaShaka – popularly known as Mbabane Swallows – square off against fellow Mbabane outfit Amawele. The all-capital clash adds further spice to an already mouth-watering draw and guarantees local bragging rights will be at stake.

Elsewhere, Young Buffaloes have been drawn against Sisonkhe, while Manzini Sea Birds will battle it out with Ubombo Sugar in what promises to be an evenly balanced contest.

Ezulwini United will face Moneni Pirates, and Malanti Chiefs are set to take on Madlenya in the remaining fixtures.

Historic SuperSport Presence

What makes this year’s Ingwenyama Cup particularly historic is the presence of South African media giant SuperSport at the draw. For the first time in the history of the country’s most prestigious football tournament, SuperSport attended and covered the draw proceedings.

Traditionally, the broadcaster has only televised the final match live on its channels. Its involvement at this earlier stage signals growing regional interest in the competition and further elevates the tournament’s profile.

The Ingwenyama Cup, played in honour of His Majesty the King, remains one of the most coveted trophies in Eswatini football. Its sponsorship by SMVAF continues to strengthen the tournament’s organisation and visibility.

Call for Discipline

Among the dignitaries present were SMVAF Chief Executive Officer Khangeziwe Mabuza, Eswatini Football Association (EFA) President Peter ‘Samora’ Simelane and Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) Chairman Polycarp Dlamini.

In her brief remarks, Mabuza urged team representatives, particularly spokespersons and Public Relations Officers (PROs), to ensure that supporters conduct themselves in an orderly manner at the various stadia.

“We urge teams to speak to their supporters and promote good behaviour. Football must unite us,” she said.

PLE Chairman Dlamini echoed the sentiments, warning that violence would tarnish the image of the tournament.

“If we promote violence, it would paint a bad picture to the owners of the tournament, who are Their Majesties. I am sure they would not be pleased,” he said.

He further encouraged teams to ensure that this edition of the richly sponsored competition delivers excitement and quality football for fans across the country.

Logistics Yet to Be Finalised

Meanwhile, PLE representative Pat Vilakati explained that the organising committee was yet to meet to finalise logistical details, including venues, dates and kick-off times for the matches scheduled for this coming weekend.

With rivalries renewed, pride at stake and a coveted trophy on the line, the Ingwenyama Cup Last 16 promises drama, passion and unforgettable football moments.
