Africa-Press – Eswatini. Business Eswatini (BE) has reinforced its pivotal role as a key partner in shaping Eswatini’s economic future following a presentation by Chief Executive Officer(CEO) E. Nathi Dlamini at the Parliamentarians’ Retreat held at Sibebe Resort this week, the organization for businesspeople and corporate entities said through a statement sent.
Under the theme “The Role of Parliamentarians in Promoting Economic Growth,” the Business Eswatini CEO addressed the Honourable MPs, outlining a strategic legislative agenda designed to foster a vibrant, inclusive, and competitive economy.
“The presentation positioned Parliament not as mere observers, but as the “architects” of the nation’s economic direction, emphasizing that the laws, debates, and policies they support are fundamental to whether Eswatini’s economy thrives or stagnates.
Dlamini’s address focused on four critical themes in his presentation essential for growth: the Immigration Bill, the Employment Bill, the promotion of Local and Foreign Direct Investment, and the need for strategic investment in technology and skills.
“The session was marked by robust engagement, with parliamentarians actively participating in discussions, asking clarifying questions, exploring alternatives, and probing deeper into BE’s stance on the issues. Conversations extended to the impact of artificial intelligence on youth employability, highlighting a forward-looking approach to the nation’s challenges. In a significant endorsement of this public-private dialogue, the Parliamentary Speaker expressed deep appreciation for BE’s presentation and participation”, reads the statement in part.
On another note, Speaker in the House of Assembly Jabulani ‘Buy Cash’ Mabuza urged Business Eswatini to continue it’s close collaboration with the Government and to respond promptly to future invitations to provide input on various pieces of legislation as they are tabled in Parliament.
A substantial part of the dialogue centred on the proposed Employment Bill No. 12 of 2024 and while Business Eswatini commended the Bill’s modernizing intent and its many excellent provisions, Dlamini raised a critical concern regarding Section 129, which seeks to prohibit triangular employment relationships.
“He underscored that a blanket prohibition, rather than regulation, is an “economically destructive provision” that contravenes the Constitution and introduces severe instability. Citing BE’s own Impact Analysis Report 2025, he outlined the dire consequences”, Business Eswatini said through the statement.
