Africa-Press – Eswatini. According to recruit Constable Sambulo Dludlu believes that excelling in police training and in the force relies on one simple principle. Conduct and discipline as the backbone of a police officer.

He was speaking during an interview with this publication, Dludlu said he was named Best Overall Recruit in Training at this year’s PoliceDay2025 Celebration and Passing Out Ceremony on Friday, August 15, 2025. He explained that what made him stand out was his adherence to rules, respect for schedules, and personal integrity, which set outstanding officers apart.

Dludlu hails from Mahlangatsha, Emambatfweni, under Chief Ndabakawombe. He attended Ekuphakameni Central Primary School before proceeding to Mhlatane High School in Piggs Peak.

Life at Matsapha Police Academy was a stark contrast to his hometown routine. For two years, Dludlu adapted to strict schedules, academic classes, and physical training. “Police Academy has standing orders which are different from what we know at home. You are away from family, and everything you used to do freely is now regulated. You have to follow the schedule exactly,” he explains.

The academy curriculum, accredited by the Eswatini Higher Education Council (ESHEC), includes nine modules providing both academic knowledge and practical policing skills.

KEY MODULES

– Criminal Procedure and Evidence Act for guiding officers on handling cases ethically and lawfully.

– Criminal Law for helping recruits distinguish crimes and understand their legal elements.

– Traffic Management for educating officers on road safety and traffic laws.

– Police Duties for focusing on professional conduct, behavior, and ethical standards.

Despite the challenges, Dludlu thrived, citing discipline as his key to success. “Being disciplined transformed me. Now, even simple things like people moving freely outside feel chaotic. I am used to order, timing, and structure,” he says. His experience also taught resilience managing exams, studying late, and participating in teamwork activities.

To young people aspiring to serve in law enforcement, he advises.“Prepare yourself mentally and physically. Be ready to learn, embrace discipline, and seek knowledge. Police work shapes not only your career but your personal life. Where others fear, be courageous; where there are challenges, see opportunities to serve.”

Dludlu’s story underscores that discipline and conduct are not just training requirements they are the foundation of effective policing and personal growth.
