Africa-Press – Eswatini. The Office of the Deputy Prime Minister (DPMO) has warned the public against a circulating online link that falsely promises a cash transfer of E3 500 to all emaSwati households under the name of the Poverty Reduction Cash Grant.
The warning was issued today by Acting Deputy Prime Minister Hon. Jane Mkhonta-Simelane, who clarified that the link is a scam and not affiliated with the Government of Eswatini.
The fraudulent link asks users to first confirm their Liswati status in order to qualify for the purported grant. Authorities say this is a clear attempt to collect personal information for malicious purposes. “We strongly urge the public to refrain from clicking on this link or submitting any personal information,” Hon. Mkhonta-Simelane said in the statement.
The DPMO, which is responsible for administering social grants including those for the elderly and persons with disabilities, confirmed that no such cash transfer program has been launched. Social assistance programs currently available are communicated only through official government channels.
Experts warn that such scams often target vulnerable populations, taking advantage of misinformation and economic hardship. Clicking on unverified links can lead to identity theft, financial loss, and other cybercrimes.
Authorities advise citizens to verify any government program by consulting official sources such as the DPMO website, the Ministry of Finance, or trusted media outlets. They also encourage residents to report suspicious links to the relevant authorities to prevent further spread of scams.
This warning comes amid a rise in online fraud attempts in Eswatini, reflecting the growing need for digital literacy and caution when engaging with unverified online content.
