Africa-Press – Eswatini. Eight IT entrepreneurs got a chance to pitch their business ideas for a new iHub in Macetjeni, a project set to provide essential technology services and create employment opportunities for the local community. The initiative, hosted by SEDCO in partnership with the Eswatini Communications Commission (ESCCOM) and UNDP, is part of a national effort to establish ICT Hubs that foster innovation while supporting community development.
A panel of judges from Limkokwing University, ESCCOM, MTN Eswatini, Eswatini Bank, and SEDCO assessed the contestants based on the impact of their presentations, storytelling, and strategic business planning. While the competition highlights individual entrepreneurship, participants emphasised that the iHub could also equip Macetjeni residents with digital skills and resources that were previously limited.
“This project is more than a business opportunity, it’s a chance to empower our community and provide jobs while introducing technology that can benefit everyone,” noted one contestant.
The iHub initiative aligns with global trends encouraging digital literacy and innovation. Around the world, technology hubs provide young people and local communities with the skills needed for the 21st century economy. By offering access to modern IT tools and training, these hubs help bridge the digital divide and promote inclusive growth.
Technology hubs like the one planned for Macetjeni also encourage collaboration and networking among entrepreneurs. They provide a space where ideas can be shared, partnerships formed, and local challenges addressed. Initiatives like this demonstrate how targeted support can empower communities to participate meaningfully in a rapidly evolving digital world.
The project reflects the ongoing collaboration between ESCCOM, UNDP, and SEDCO, showing how multi stakeholder partnerships can drive innovation while uplifting communities. As the competition concludes, excitement builds around which entrepreneur will lead this transformative initiative.
As the iHub competition wraps up, the Macetjeni project stands as a symbol of technology’s potential to drive community development, create jobs, and equip residents with digital skills. The collaboration between ESCCOM, UNDP, and SEDCO continues to showcase how partnerships can foster innovation and uplift local communities, leaving many eager to see who will take the lead.
