Africa-Press – Eswatini. Government has assured Members of Parliament (MPs) that it will continue to support The Luke Commission (TLC).
This was said by Minister of Health Mduduzi Matsebula on Thursday, September 11, 2025 in the House of Assembly. Matsebula said this in response to a question by Hhukwini MP Alec Lushaba.
Lushaba wanted Matsebula to update the House on the status of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Government and the TLC. Lushaba also wanted the minister to inform the House on how the TLC was operating, as it needed money to be functional.
Matsebula said they worked with TLC and got along, although there were some disagreements. However, they ended up agreeing that Government and TLC would be in a Public-Private Partnership (PPP), where Government would supply medicines and other materials and the agreement would be at service level.
The parties agreed that Government would buy services from TLC and work on mobilising sponsors to help TLC. However, Cabinet did not approve the agreement because it wanted audited financial statements so that it could know how Government funds were used by TLC.
Matsebula said the statements would be forwarded to Cabinet soon, before it could approve. The minister said it released E50 million for 2024/25 to TLC to use it. However, he admitted that this money could not be enough.
He said there was a budget allocation for 2025/26, but it was put to Head 60, pending the submission of the financial statements.
